Raiders News And Rumors Recap: New QB Target Emerges For Raiders
The Raiders are a very strong bet to take a quarterback in this year's draft. Many people like Louisville's Teddy Bridgewater or Texas A&M's Johnny Manziel, but ESPN's Todd McShay has the Raiders tabbed to take little known Blake Bortles of Central Florida with the third pick in the draft. Bortles has all of the physical tools you look for in a quarterback, and will have a huge stage to make a mark when he leads UCF against Baylor in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl on New Years Day. Whatever the case may be, it is likely the Raiders will have someone new taking snaps when the season starts next year. On the coaching front, Raiders fan favorite Jon Gruden is apparently interested in the Texas Longhorn job. With Dennis Allen among the many coaches rumored to be on the hot seat heading towards the end of this season, the Raiders would lose a major replacement candidate if Gruden were to head to Texas. The Raiders will be looking at a new qb because they don’t want to let Terrell Pryor be their franchise qb. They are trying to get rid of all of Al Davis’ players and they haven’t proven they know how to find big time players. Pryor is their franchise qb but Al drafted him. McGloin is their 3rd try at a starting qb and the media can’t even keep fans from wanting TP2 back at qb. McGloin is a back up and could become one of the best back ups in the NFL but the fact is they really don’t want Pryor and thats why they didn’t want him throwing behind a healthy O-line. You need to be looking at who is telling Reggie what to do and those people are in the background pushing Reggie to cut, trade or not give a contract extention to any Al player.

Manzel, Blake or Bridgewater aren’t going make this regime look better but they will get rid of all of Al’s guys and that’s what the NFL wants them to do.

Raiders will definitely draft a QB and will have to do so with extreme due diligence to erase the JaMarcus Russell catastrophe that still haunts them. Dipping into free agency and getting a guy like Michael Vick means they’ll have to adopt a “win now” mentality, meaning they’ll have to surround him with other complementary, high-priced free agents at the skill positions. At age 33, Vick may not want to enter a situation where he’s part of a rebuilding process, unless he’s willing to concede his role to a young QB in the future while playing the role of starting QB/mentor now.
